We finally (3/14/17) got enough snow to use this snow thrower. It started up like a charm and worked well for about the first two runs down the driveway. Then the plastic blade piece broke and it is also leaking oil. This product didn't even make it through the first three months and only one use!!!!!!!

      Power Clear 518 ZR/ZE Snowthrower

      By Melanie

      from Brooklyn Center Mn

      About Me

      Comments:

We had a service man check out Toro Power Clear Snowthrower. After the first or second use We tried to start it and wouldn't start. We bought this 11/11/14 and used it on 3/2015. The next winter we went to start it, nothing. We had to take it to be serviced so we brought it to to a service tech and he got it running but the compression was only 35 lbs. This Toro is a piece of junk the warranty is up but they (Toro) will not do anything to make it right. BAD DEAL FOR US, THEY SAID. They will not get out business any more!!!

      Nice little machine!

      About Me

      Comments:

I needed a small snow blower for the walk and patio and this little guy fits the bill. It's very easy to use. Starts on first pull. It's been handling the misery (heavy/blizzard snow & some ice) that's been thrown at Connecticut this winter, although it has rightfully struggled at times.

For the amount of snow we got this year in the Northwest desert this machine worked better than expected. Did a great job in snow, and slush.

      Product does the job.

      Cons

      • electric start

      Best Uses

        Comments:

The product does a good job and has good features. Easy to adjust the direction and height of discharge of the snow. It is very easy to start without the electric start. The additional cost for the electric start is not worth the added cost IMHO. Have yet to use the electric start as it is way too inconvenient and in my opinion totally worthless. If the engine bogs down due to too much heavy snow you'd have to go back to the power outlet in the garage or wherever the nearest outlet is. I told my next door neighbor and he bought the one without the electric start option, he was happy to save the $50 and is also happy with the product. Had I known it was not a battery powered starter I would not have paid the higher price. It is MY FAULT for not asking the question about the starter. Our heavier than usual snowfall prompted me to just rush the purchase process and I ASSUMED there was a battery powered starter. Never assume!

          Comments:

As my wife and I grow older we find that we have to tag team the work around the house and yard to get it done and that also includes snow removal. When she made an offer to help with snow removal I couldn't turn her down and the Toro 518 ZE fit the task. This snowblower is light and east to handle in tight places and sidewalks. She really likes the electric start and not having to mix oil and gas as you would have to do with a 2 cycle. We received about three inches of snow overnight and this morning she was able to easily remove it. I was surprised at how quickly she was able go right thru the snow. She also cleaned our 100 ft. driveway quite effortlessly given the 18 inch width. We are very happy with ease of assembly and performance of the machine. If you need to supplement your snow removal tools or have only a small area(s) to do give this snowblower serious consideration. It will do larger areas, just takes more time.

            Comments:

So, I was concerned, Living in Colorado, that a thrower vs a two stage blower would be an issue. Trust me this thing throws snow! 25ft as described is no exaggeration!! Plus, unlike a snow blower, this gem cleans down to the cement level, one pass, you're done! I've used it on 4" dropping and a 10" drop as well as a couple in between. I was thinking I was going to have to get a two stage snow blower, I am leaning towards this being the only tool I will need.

This is so Lightweight and not complicated to use! We have had 2 decent snowfalls so far and it worked great. The first was wet & heavy. It did struggle a little at a normal walking pace, so I just slowed down a bit and took smaller bites, it was fine. The second was light fluffy snow. But it was about 18 degrees out, it started right up! I haven't used the electric start, haven't needed to. I am very pleased with this snowblower. This is the first one I bought and it was a Great Purchase! Well worth the money!
